Unfile a VAT return to correct it

Quick answerIn MAJA Books go to VAT & Corp. Tax, click the period in Filing History, click Unfile and type the reason (at least ten characters) — MAJA voids the FTA bill, reverses the settlement journal today and unlocks the period in one step.
Where: MAJA Books → VAT & Corp. Tax → Filing History → UnfileWho: Anyone whose role may unfile VAT

Steps

  1. Click VAT & Corp. Tax in the left menu.
  2. In Filing History, click the filed period. The filing page opens.
  3. Click Unfile.
  4. Type the reason, at least ten characters. It is stored on the filing.
  5. Click OK.

What MAJA does for you

  • In one step: voids the FTA bill (its number stays in the register), reverses the settlement journal with today's date (the original is kept), and unlocks the period.
  • The filing stays in history marked UNFILED, with who unfiled it, when and why.

Good to know

  • If anything blocks the rollback, MAJA refuses and changes nothing: Unfile refused: … — nothing was changed.
  • After correcting the documents, calculate the period again and click Mark Period as Filed.
  • A month in the Periods tab that sits inside a filed return shows Unfile to modify; unfiling is the only way to unlock it.
