How MAJA costs your stock (FIFO)

Quick answerMAJA Books values stock lot by lot, first in, first out: every receipt (bill, production order, opening stock, found stock) creates a cost layer, every sale or use takes the oldest layer first, and stock value is the remaining quantity of each layer times its cost — see Reports → Inventory Valuation.

How it works

  • Receipts create layers. A bill, a completed production order, opening stock and a found-stock adjustment each add a layer: a quantity at its own unit cost and date.
  • Issues take the oldest first. An invoice, a production order's materials, a write-off or a POS sale takes stock from the oldest layer, then the next.
  • Stock value is the sum of what is left in each layer times that layer's cost.
  • Cost of goods sold on each sale is the cost of the layers it took.
  • Transfers move layers between locations at the same cost.

See it in the reports

  1. Click Reports in the left menu.
  2. Choose the Inventory Valuation family.
  3. Open FIFO Valuation + GL Tie-out to see stock at layer cost proved against the ledger, or FIFO Layer History to see every layer with the document that created it.

Good to know

  • A document dated in the past only takes layers dated on or before it. If it would change a stock count recorded later, MAJA asks first: "OK — restate the count and post. Cancel — go back (nothing is saved)."
  • A value adjustment (Stock Adjustments → Value (revaluation)) gives the stock on hand a new cost from its date; earlier sales keep their cost.
  • Inventory → Health Check compares layers, stock cards and the ledger. If it offers a repair, contact MAJA support before using it.
