Register a fixed asset

Quick answerIn MAJA Books go to Accountant → Fixed Assets → Register Asset, enter the Asset Name, Acquisition Date and Cost (AED), choose the Acquisition Journal, the depreciation Method, Frequency and Useful Life, and click Save Asset — MAJA builds the depreciation schedule.

Steps

  1. Click Accountant in the left menu, then Fixed Assets.
  2. Click Register Asset.
  3. Under Asset, type the Asset Name, choose the Category, and add the Location, Serial / Tag No. and Notes if useful.
  4. If a bill carries the cost, pick it as the Source Bill.
  5. Under Acquisition, enter the Acquisition Date, the Cost (AED) and the Salvage Value.
  6. Choose the Acquisition Journal: - None — cost already in the ledger (e.g. via the bill), or - Post now — Dr 1500 / Cr account below, then choose the Credit Account (Opening Balance Equity or a bank account).
  7. Under Depreciation, choose the Method (Straight-line (default) or Declining Balance (double)) and the Frequency (Monthly (default) or Yearly).
  8. Enter the Useful Life (months) — or the years beside it.
  9. Choose the Start Convention: Month after acquisition (default) or Custom start date.
  10. Read the preview, attach the purchase invoice if you have it, and click Save Asset.

What MAJA does for you

  • Gives the asset a number and builds its depreciation schedule.
  • With Post now, posts the acquisition journal (Dr 1500 Fixed Assets).

Good to know

  • Cost must be above zero, salvage must be below cost, useful life at least one month, and the acquisition date is required.
  • If the cost is below your capitalization threshold (Settings → Accounting), MAJA asks whether to register it anyway or record it as an expense.
  • Changing cost, life or method later re-spreads only what is not yet depreciated; posted depreciation is never rewritten.
