Download the FTA Audit File (FAF)

Steps

1. Click Reports in the left menu.
2. Click the Tax family on the left, then VAT Audit File (FTA FAF).
3. Open the period list (it starts at This Financial Year) and choose Custom….
4. Enter the first and last day of the tax period and click Go.
5. Read the page: Table 1 Company Information, Table 2 Supplier Purchase Listing, Table 3 Customer Supply Listing, Table 4 General Ledger, the tax codes used, and The file against the return.
6. Click Download FAF (.csv). Export CSV at the top of the page downloads the same file.

What MAJA does for you

• Builds one CSV in the FTA's own field names and order: company, purchases (bills, expenses, debit notes and imports, line by line), supplies (invoices, credit notes, advance tax invoices, till Z reports and bad-debt rows), and every ledger line of the period.
• Names the file with your TRN and the period, for example FAF__-.csv.
• Reconciles the file's totals by tax code against the boxes of the return and names any difference (a draft bill, blocked input tax or a manual VAT journal).
• Records the export in the audit trail.

Good to know

• The file starts at your effective date of registration; there is no file for a period before it.
• Dates are written DD-MM-YYYY with two decimals. A comma inside a name or description is written as ";" so no field splits.
• Purchase lines with no VAT treatment recorded are coded by the fact (OS when no VAT was charged) and listed separately so you can correct them.
