Mark a VAT return as filed and pay the FTA
Quick answerAfter you submit the return on the FTA portal, go to MAJA Books → VAT & Corp. Tax, calculate the same period and click Mark Period as Filed — MAJA locks the period, clears the VAT accounts into 2310 and raises a bill to the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) due 28 days after the period end, which you pay like any bill.
Steps
- Click VAT & Corp. Tax in the left menu.
- Set the Period Start and Period End and click Calculate VAT. Filing uses the figures you just calculated.
- Click Mark Period as Filed.
- If you have no vendor for the tax authority yet, MAJA offers to create "Federal Tax Authority (FTA)". Click OK.
- Read the confirmation (the locked boxes and what will be posted) and click OK.
- To pay, click the period in Filing History, then click Pay on the FTA bill card (or pay the bill from Purchase → Bills).
What MAJA does for you
- Locks the whole period. This is stronger than closing a month — reopening a month does not unlock it.
- Posts the settlement journal: output VAT and input VAT are cleared into 2310.
- If tax is payable, creates a bill to the FTA for it, due 28 days after the period end. A refund carried from an earlier return is offset first.
- If the return is a refund, no bill is made; 2310 carries what the FTA owes you.
- Saves the filed boxes and the emirate split as a permanent record in Filing History.
Good to know
- MAJA refuses if you have not calculated first, if the period overlaps a return already filed, if the company is not registered, or if the tills still hold unsent sales for the period.
- Click any period in Filing History to see the full return working, the FTA bill, PDF/Print and CSV.
- To correct a filed period you must unfile it first.
