Close or reopen an accounting month
Quick answerIn MAJA Books go to Accountant, open the Periods tab and click Close on the month — the database then refuses every posting, edit or deletion dated in that month; to change it later click Reopen and give the reason.
Steps — close a month
- Click Accountant in the left menu.
- Click the Periods tab at the top of the Accountant page.
- Find the month. Each row shows how many journals are posted in it and whether it is OPEN or CLOSED.
- Click Close and confirm.
Steps — reopen a month
- On the Periods tab, find the closed month.
- Click Reopen.
- Type the reason. It is stored on the period.
What MAJA does for you
- A closed month is locked in the database itself: no postings, edits, draft postings or deletions of posted entries dated inside it, from any screen.
- The row shows who closed it and when, or who reopened it, when and why.
Good to know
- Drafts stay free in a closed month; they are not in the ledger.
- Closing the current month blocks day-to-day posting until you reopen it. MAJA warns you.
- If the tills still hold unsent sales for the month, MAJA says the month waits for the tills.
- A month inside a filed VAT return shows VAT FILED and Unfile to modify. Reopening does not unlock it — only unfiling the return does.
