Open a shift with an opening float
Quick answerIn MAJA POS tap the Shift tile on Home, count the notes and coins in the drawer, type the Opening float · AED and tap Open the shift — the till can now take payments.
Before you start
- Opening a shift needs the internet once, because the server keeps the shift. After that the till can sell offline.
Steps
- Sign in with your PIN. On Home, the Shift tile says "no open shift — tap to open".
- Tap the Shift tile.
- Count the float in the drawer — the notes and coins you start the day with.
- Type the amount in Opening float · AED, or build it with the +50, +100, +200 and +500 buttons (clear starts again).
- Tap Open the shift.
- The message "Shift open — float AED …" shows and the tile now reads "open since … · float …".
What MAJA does for you
- Records the shift on the server with its business date, the till, the cashier and the float.
- Uses the float in the "Cash in the drawer should be" figure when you close the shift.
- If you tap PAY with no shift open, MAJA opens this sheet first and then continues to the payment.
Good to know
- If the server already has an open shift for this till (for example opened before the device was reset), the till takes it over: "The server already had this till's shift open — the till now works in it".
- Offline you see "Opening a shift needs the internet once — the server keeps the shift. Sign the till's MAJA account in and try again".
- A till paused in MAJA Books (Tills & cashiers → Pause) cannot open a new shift.
- A shift opened in training mode only takes training sales.
