Run the end-of-service (gratuity) provision
Quick answerIn MAJA Books go to Payroll → EOS Provision and click Run provision; MAJA works out each expatriate employee's gratuity entitlement to the current month-end, subtracts what is already provided and posts one journal for the difference (Dr gratuity expense / Cr 2210 Employee End of Service Gratuity).
Steps
- Open MAJA Books and click Payroll in the left menu.
- Click EOS Provision.
- Check the table: basic, joining date, service, entitlement to date, already provided and the delta due for each employee.
- Click Run provision and confirm.
- Repeat once a month.
What MAJA does for you
- Entitlement uses the current basic: 21 days a year for the first five years, 30 days a year after, daily rate basic ÷ 30, capped at 24 months' basic.
- The first run books the catch-up from joining; later runs post only the change. Skipping a month is caught up by the next run.
- A negative change (for example after a pay cut) releases provision.
- At final settlement the provision is used first; only the shortfall goes to gratuity expense, and any excess is released.
Good to know
- UAE and GCC nationals are skipped — pension replaces gratuity.
- When nothing is due, MAJA says "Provision is exactly at entitlement — nothing due."
- A month-end inside a locked period is refused.
